The Story Behind Rooted Living

Rooted Living Program was born from both resilience and purpose.

As a U.S. veteran, a survivor of domestic violence and narcissistic abuse, and someone who has experienced instability firsthand, I know what it feels like to start over with nothing but strength, courage, and faith.

My journey has not been easy. I have personally experienced the pain of being in situations where love, respect, and appreciation were missing. I know what it feels like to make the difficult decision to leave, rebuild, and find yourself again. But I also know that survival is possible. With God at the center, faith as our foundation, and the courage to take the next step, we can overcome what tried to break us.

As a child, I watched my mother pack our belongings into black trash bags and move us into a single room to escape an unsafe home. That experience — and the pain of losing stability — stayed with me. It taught me that having a safe place to live isn’t just about shelter; it’s about dignity, healing, and the chance to rebuild.

Years later, after I was laid off, I saw the same struggle spreading across our communities. People were losing jobs, homes, and hope. Homelessness was being treated like a crime, yet so many individuals simply needed support, structure, and compassion. My heart was broken — not just for myself, but for others who didn’t have anyone to turn to.

That’s when I knew it was time to act.

Rooted Living Program was created to provide a safe, structured, and supportive space for individuals who are ready to rebuild their lives. Our mission is rooted in the belief that no one should feel trapped by their past, defined by their circumstances, or believe they cannot start again.

This mission is not just a vision — it is a family commitment.

Rooted Living is a family-run business built alongside my two sons, Jalyn and Javon Thomas. Together, we are committed to creating a foundation where people can find stability, regain confidence, and grow toward a brighter future. Our family understands the importance of strong roots, a safe environment, and a support system that believes in you.

At Rooted Living, we provide more than housing — we offer stability, accountability, encouragement, and opportunity. We walk alongside individuals as they heal, rebuild, and move toward independence with confidence and dignity.

We want every person who comes through our doors to know this: you can make it out. You can rebuild. You can begin again. You never have to remain in a place where you are not truly loved, respected, and valued.
